Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Accused, Including Wife, to Recreate Crime Scene
Meghalaya Police will take all accused, including Sonam, the wife of murdered Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, and her alleged boyfriend Raj, to Sohra to recreate the crime scene. Raghuvanshi was hacked to death on May 23 while on honeymoon; his decomposed body was found on June 2. Sonam later surrendered in Uttar Pradesh. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the case, investigating various angles and the unusual animosity so soon after marriage.
Unpacked:
Sohra (Cherrapunji) was the location where the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi took place. Police took the accused there to accurately reconstruct the sequence of events, which helps investigators clarify each person’s role and gather crucial evidence by matching statements with the physical setting.
Besides Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kuswaha (the alleged mastermind), three other accused have been detained. While their specific roles have not been publicly detailed, they are believed to have assisted in the planning and execution of the murder, according to initial police reports.
The motive remains under investigation. Police find it unusual that Sonam would develop animosity toward her husband so quickly after marriage and are probing whether financial, personal, or other factors led to the crime. The involvement of her alleged boyfriend Raj suggests a possible pre-existing relationship as a motive.
Despite dense fog, rain, and low temperatures in Sohra, Meghalaya Police proceeded with the crime reconstruction, demonstrating determination to gather evidence. The SIT, led by senior officers, is using forensic units and carefully coordinating logistics to maintain the investigation’s integrity in difficult conditions.
